Touching Songs in Recent Times

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

We are talking about songs that have managed to touch our hearts in recent times. One song that comes to my mind is ‘Mere Haath Mein’ from the Yashraj’s film ‘Fanaa’. Movie was a hit and so was this song. A very beautiful composition, it is very romantic and it boasts of some unexplainable feelings.

 Kalyug from the Bhatt banners did cause ripples because of its music and story line. But one of the best hits of the movie, ‘Aadat’ is originally from the album ‘Jal’. The song leaves you exasperate with its melancholic and helpless feel. Song is extremely attractive and somehow pulls you towards it. You can’t help but fall in love with this song.

Taare Zameen Par earned lots of accolades for its novel theme and great acting. But one song that stayed with you even after you left the theatre is ‘Maa’. Just check its lyrics;

‘Bheed Mein Yun Na Chodo Mujhe

Ghar Laut Ke Bhi Aa Naa Paoon Maa

Bhej Na Itna Door Mujkko Tu

Yaad Bhi Tujhko Aa Naa Paoon Maa

Kya Itna Bura Hoon Main Maa

Kya Itna Bura Meri Maa’

How touching! Many viewers had tears in their eyes while listening to this song. This is simply a heart wrenching song that will leave you greatly affected. Talking about ‘Maa’, you must have listened to song ‘Mumma Meri Maa; from the movie Dasvidaniya. A very beautiful song, it had its moments. Kailash Kher has given his best in this song and that reflects in its effect on the listeners. Its lyrics;

‘Begdi kismat bhi sawanr jaayegi

Zindagi tarane khushi ke gayegi

Tere hote kiska dar

Tu duawon ka hai ghar’ were so well written and meaningful. Add to that, expressions given by lead actors on the screen and song becomes a must have in your collection.

Beauty of Hindi lyrics

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Hindi song has several important components. All the cogs of the wheel need to perform in harmony then only a beautiful song emerges. For example, the song structure must have appropriate rhythms and beats. But what gives soul to the music? Ys, you guessed it right, its Lyrics. Essence of Hindi song is its lyrics. New age songs often lack good lyrics and that explains low shelf life of such songs and relatively lower recall value by the music lovers. If people still love to hum old songs then that’s solely because of lyrics. Less use of beats and musical instrumentation and soulful lyrics and you have a memorable song. Remember, ‘Jab pyar kia toh darna kya’ from Mughal-Ae-Azam? What was the use of musical instrumentation? It just had wonderful lyrics and mesmerising vice of Lata Mangeshkar and we still remember this song. For that matter even the song ‘Aayega Aayega Aane wala’ from the movie ‘Mahal’ by Lata again. In that era, not much technology was available and hardly few instruments were used. And yet that song is remembered as one of the most haunting song in Indian film history.

 Lyrics with deep meanings soothe your soul. Today, lyrics are dominated by technology or beats. Sometimes, you can’t even make out what are the lyrics. Earlier, music was woven around lyrics and now it is more like lyrics are put into just to fill the gap.

 Good lyrics will always be etched in your heart. You can never get enough of good lyrics and soulful music. Remember any favourite song of your’s and you will find it had amazingly meaningful lyrics. Most of the songs sung by Lata, Rafi, Kishor or Mukesh thrived on wonderful lyrics and superb voice quality of singers.

Hindi Songs

Hindi songs are soothing and also vulnerable to the changes of time. Indian musicians in the film arena have studied the various concepts of Hindi music and used them in their rendition for many movies. The olden era where the actors gave their voice is now changed by emerging trends in music and singers. The new age songs have the right proportion of Hindi lyrics which is balanced with perfect arrangement of music.

Music lovers regale on the olden times and also look forward to new music releases. There are various traces of folk music in our Hindi film songs. The recording studio and technique has also developed much more than the yesteryears and hence this is a source of inspiration to many musicians. Re creating the magic of olden times is another forte wherein many new musicians try and produce new music keeping the distinct tone of the original score.

Whether it is reggae, pop or pure Hindi love songs, the films in India have explored all options. Hindi songs are also about singers who create their own albums and explore their hidden talents to bring in rejuvenating music. The melody is also well showcased with latest nuances in dance and presentation formats. Music DVDs and online music especially with latest music releases are a constant source of entertainment to young and old.

Great works of art are seen in the melody of many maestros like Gangubai Hangal and Lata Mangeshkar who have always carved their own niche. Their contribution to the classical as well as cultural formats of India is always appreciated by Indians. Shattering all myths, the pop culture in music is also another form of melody. Most film promotions are also based on a particular music score that is eye catching to prospective cine goers.

With recognition of Hindi music and songs, there are many academies which under the guidance of established musicians are giving hope to aspiring musicians of tomorrow. The time of the sixties to Disco, the rap rendition of NRI musicians and also the sweet melody of village folk songs actually brings in the true essence of Indianism which is comprehensive and yet distinguished.
