Actor singers

Hindi cine magic is full of splendor and discoveries. The earlier or very first films were of the experimental variety. The concept was simple and nothing was talked about glamour. Going by the stage principle, performance was done with mostly actors who not only gave the dialogues but also did the background score along with singing. Suraiya is one such actor who comes to our mind.

The beauty of actor Noor Jehan and the simple melody of her songs are worth a collection. The songs sung by her are memorable and stirs pleasant memories of the old-gold days. As professional and competition slowly commenced in the field, singers were a distinct self. It was common that Raj Kumar saab insisted for the voice of Mukesh and such blending is still present.

In the recent years this trend was almost non existent and actors loaning their voices to their own characterization in music was also of popular value. The song Shivani sung by Sanjay Dutt is one such idea. Sridevi also sang the song ‘Chandni’ for her own film and this was quite a hit. This was an idea which many times were a hit and yet there was more of promotion value linked to the same.

Aamir Khan’s ‘Kya bolti tu’ is still a popular number and these one-off songs in the Hindi cinema do work. One person who is distinguished and has an unparallel equation to his acting and singing capabilities is Kishore Kumar. His songs whether comedy or romance or tragedy were actually enacted via his voice. One could sense the mirth he must have felt while recording ‘ Ek chatur naar’ for Padosan or also felt his tears while singing ‘ Kiska rasta Dekhe’.

Many actors like Shekar Suman are also getting into the music scenario with their single albums and much glamour quotient to display their talent in a broad spectrum. New talents like Shruti Hasan is making her debut as actor singer with the film Luck.
