Indian music has changed a lot in last two decades matching steps to the changes taking place in other parts of the world. Earlier, Indian music was all about film songs and classical music. But with changing times, other genres also started to gain popularity on Indian soil. Rock music has literally flourished in India in last few years. A proof of this emerging phenomenon is coming up of new rock bands. Some of these rock bands have also entered into mainstream Indian music. Among the rock bands listed above, some have got more fame and recognition in India. For example, Indian Ocean has been credited with being one of the firsts to popularize rock music in India. This is a Delhi based Rock band that excels in compiling music from genres as different as rock, fusion, jazz and Indian.

Similarly, ‘Cactus’ has the prized distinction of being the first professional rock band from the cultural city of Kolkata. Formed in 1992, most of the songs compiled by the group are in Bengali. They have performed live on no less than 2000 stages. Rock band ‘Avial’ is from God’s own country, Kerala and is basically a Malayalee rock band. The group had also released an album by the name of ‘Avial’ that attained a cult status in Indian rock world.

‘Parikrama’ belongs to the top rock bands in India and is known for giving original scores and electrifying live performances. The USP of the band is delectable mix of classical musical instruments in combination with conventional instruments used for western music like guitar, drums and keyboards.

remix era

Music passes through several genres. There are influences and also going back to the retro style. Just like fashion music is getting more exploration due to interaction, influences and quest to do something different. There are great many musicians who are employing audio and acoustics to get the right pitch and tone for a particular type of music. This has given rise to much new age music that is inspired from original tracks.

 Original songs that have been a hit in the past are converted or rather treated with acoustics and a different pitch to create a new form of music. This is the remix version popularized by the youth. Usually picked for dance or the disco genre, remix music also doesn’t conform to peppy original scores. There are instances of slow songs, meaningful songs recomposed and treated to project the remix version.

Parallel release of such songs also goes a long way to create a sneak preview and whet the appetite of the movie goer.  The pop, reggae or rap culture has slowly initiated this remix culture which is popular with the dance centric people. The pitch, tone is well altered by equalizing effect. The songs of Dus and the recent Blue have its counterpart in remix composition. With the fan following so large, new remix versions with Hinglish raps are churned out by new age artists.
